The SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne is THE city marathon in Switzerland and always takes place on the last Sunday in October. The start and finish are at the Swiss Museum of Transport. The next SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne will take place on 26 October 2025. It will be the 18th edition of this popular running event!

  • In addition to the supreme discipline of the marathon (42KM) , the SwissCityMarathon also features a half marathon (21KM), the CityRun 10KM, the CharityRun 10KM and the Maratholino (195m) for kids.
  • The SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne was organised for the first time in 2007. At that time it was still known as the "Lucerne Marathon". Over 6,000 runners took part in the first edition.
  • In recent years, the half marathon as part of the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne has been the largest half marathon in Switzerland with more than 7,000 participants.
  • The world meets to run in Lucerne. Every year, over 90 nations line up at the start. In addition to Switzerland, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, the USA and France are the most represented nations.
  • Every year, runners from all Swiss cantons are on the start list.
  • Across all distances, the proportion of women at the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne is around 37%.
  • The 10KM distance has the highest proportion of women at over 50%.

Marathon and half marathon course records

The course record for the men's marathon dates back to 2022 and stands at 2:24:24 hours (Andrea Salvisberg). The women's marathon course record was set by Martina Strähl in 2013 and stands at 2:39.15 hours.

The course record for the men's half marathon is 1:01:29 (Mohamed Reda El Aaraby, 2023) and the women's record for the same distance is 1:07:59 (Violah Jepchumba Kilonzo, 2023). Both records were set during the CISM World Half Marathon Championships.
