Social commitment
  • The SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne is a sporting event with regional, national and international appeal for Lucerne and the surrounding area that is recognised and anchored in the population.
  • Every year, a running festival is organised with more than 12,000 athletes, who are supported by around 50,000 spectators.
  • The LUZERN tourism brand is disseminated and strengthened.
  • Social institutions (such as IG Arbeit) and charity projects charity projects are supported in various ways.
  • Inclusive measures are used to integrate different groups (including holders of a cultural licence, people with disabilities, asylum seekers, etc.) into social events.
  • The event offers motivational incentives and goals to promote the health-oriented exercise behaviour of numerous individuals, families, groups, companies, etc.
  • Regional associations are supported by encouraging co-operation and commitment and promoting shared experiences.

  • The SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne is a sporting event with regional, national and international appeal for Lucerne and the surrounding area that is recognised and anchored in the population.
  • Every year, a running festival is organised with more than 12,000 athletes, who are supported by around 50,000 spectators.
  • The SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne generates added value in the city and region of Lucerne, whether in the hotel, catering or retail sectors.
  • Local suppliers and companies are taken into account.
  • Cooperation with media partners ensures that information is disseminated to the population, while additional inserts, adverts and commercials provide economic added value.
  • Social institutions (such as IG Arbeit) and charity projects are supported in various ways. Donations and proceeds from the entry fees of charity runners are transferred to the institutions in full.
  • The event offers motivational incentives and goals to promote the health-oriented exercise behaviour of numerous individuals, families, groups, companies, etc.
  • The regional associations are supported with over CHF 60,000 for the indispensable volunteer assignments. In this sense, the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne is one of the most important sponsors and supporters of regional associations.
  • The SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne assumes an essential mediating function between authorities, partners and sponsors.

Ecological commitment

Principles & priorities

  • An environmental officer ensures that environmental measures are incorporated into planning at an early stage and implemented.
  • Public transport, non-motorised transport and combined mobility are promoted. Thanks to the SwissRunners ticket, travelling by public transport in Switzerland is free for all participants.
  • The aim is to achieve a high degree of utilisation of motorised private transport and to keep it away from the city centre.
  • Waste is firstly avoided, secondly reduced and thirdly separated. Numerous waste and recycling stations are in operation. "Volunteer Clean Teams" ensure that event sites are kept clean.
  • Existing infrastructure is used for the event wherever possible.
  • Energy consumption is kept low and covered by renewable energies.
  • Seasonal and regional products and companies (labelled) are given preference.
  • Co-operation with the authorities is strengthened and compensation measures are secured.
  • The environmental measures are actively communicated and awareness of environmentally friendly behaviour is raised.
  • The eco-balance of the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne will be monitored and improvements in favour of the environment will be made for future events.
