Run preparation

How do I prepare properly for my run?

There is no such thing as the right preparation. By "correct" here, we mean "conscientious". Prepare yourself so that you can cope with the upcoming effort (42KM, 21KM or 10KM)!

Take note of the following tips

  • Experience! Join a training group. You will learn the most from experienced runners. You can find a selection here: Training programmes
  • Not alone! Train together with colleagues! It's easier to complete your running training together.
  • Plan your training! Create a training plan of when and how you will train/run. Planning makes your training more binding.
  • Learning by doing! Running is best trained by... running.
  • Step by step! Gradually approach your target distance. Start with shorter distances.
  • Catering! Before the event, test how you will be fuelled during the run. No experiments at the event.
  • Clothing! Don't dress too warmly. Your body develops a lot of heat during exercise. Break in your shoes and don't use them for the first time.
  • Health! You can find some tips on preparing for your run under Medical information.

Basic principles of running training

  • Start with short distances at a slow pace
  • Increase the duration of your training (e.g. from 15 min endurance run > 20 min > etc.)
  • Increase the running distance (e.g. 3km > 5km > 7km > etc.)
  • Increase intensity (e.g. increase speed / incorporate inclines / etc.)
  • Incorporate variety (e.g. vary the surface / interval training instead of continuous running / additional strength training for core, legs, etc.)
What kind of training programme & preparation runs do you offer?
