Since 2016, people with and without disabilities have been enthusiastically taking part in the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne under the motto "never walk alone". The integrative running project has established itself and is very popular.
When over 13,000 runners populate the city of Lucerne on the last Sunday in October and take part in the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne, athletes with mental and physical disabilities are also at the starting line. Every year, PluSport integrates over 30 runners with disabilities into the Lucerne running event with the support of its partners. Some of the PluSport athletes are accompanied by guides if necessary. "Our aim is to enable all interested runners to take part in the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne. Together with the organising committee, we create the best possible conditions for ambitious athletes to achieve a top performance. As with all other participants, the focus is on sporting performance, the shared experience and wonderful emotions," says René Pfister from PluSport Switzerland. Coop and Suva will cover the entry fee for all participants with disabilities and their accompanying persons (guides).
The following running distances are on offer:
- CityRun 10KM (start at 13:37 in Horw)
- Half marathon 21KM (start between 10:00 - 11:50 in Lucerne)
- Marathon 42KM (start between 08:37 - 08:45 in Lucerne)
Since 2022, people in wheelchairs have also been able to take part in the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne. Until then, participation with a wheelchair was not possible for safety reasons (route offsets, descents, overtaking manoeuvres, timetable, etc.). Participation is now possible with a guide who pushes the wheelchair and/or accompanies you throughout the course. Following the "Roll&Run" principle, the disabled person completes the CityRun 10KM, half or even marathon with a companion and experiences the unique atmosphere of the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne together with all the other runners in the field. Participants in the "Roll&Run" will be listed alphabetically in the results list with the time achieved, but without ranking. Participation in a wheelchair without a companion is still not permitted. The "Roll&Run" registration is mandatory via PluSport "never walk alone": Register for Roll&Run
PluSport, Coop and Suva are looking forward to many individual and group registrations and a successful event!
The PluSport registration deadline is 12 October.
