Start together, experience it together: since 2022, wheelchair users have been able to take part in the SwissCityMarathon – Lucerne. With a support person by their side, the CityRun 10KM, the half-marathon or the marathon become a special shared running experience right in the middle of the field.
The Roll&Run category at the SwissCityMarathon – Lucerne 2026 is already sold out.
In the Roll&Run category, participants in wheelchairs can actively take part in the SwissCityMarathon – Lucerne and be part of the field of runners. Together with a companion or guide, they complete their chosen distance and experience the special atmosphere along the route right through to the finish line.
Until 2022, participation in a wheelchair was not possible for safety reasons. Steep sections, descents, overtaking manoeuvres and the tight schedule posed particular challenges. The accompanied ‘Roll&Run’ format has created a solution that enables participation whilst ensuring the safety of all participants.
The focus is on the shared experience: the physical activity, the emotions, the support along the route and the special atmosphere at the SwissCityMarathon – Lucerne. Roll&Run participants run alongside all the other participants and experience the route, the spectators and the finish line as part of the large field of runners.
Participation is available over the following distances:
‘Roll&Run’ participants will be listed in the results in alphabetical order by their finishing times, but without any ranking.
The Swiss Paraplegic Foundation supports participants in the ‘Roll&Run’ by providing ‘Free Wheels’ on loan free of charge. These wheelchair attachments reduce rolling resistance and make it easier to navigate different road surfaces. This makes taking part in the race more comfortable and safer.
With ‘Roll&Run’, the SwissCityMarathon – Lucerne, in collaboration with Wheelchair Sport Switzerland, becomes even more diverse, inclusive and accessible. We are delighted to welcome all participants, guides and support staff who make this special running experience possible.
