A lot of positive feedback on the different "Marathon Week 2020"

The SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne "Marathon Week 2020" will be remembered well by the Organising Committee and the runners despite the cancellation of this major event.

In addition to the four "YesWeRun" Events from 20 – 23 October in the Zug and Lucerne region, over 600 running enthusiasts completed the 10K, half-marathon or marathon distance at home on the weekend of 24 and 25 October 2020.

Virtual Challenge 2020 completed!
The goal of 10,292 kilometres (corresponding to the number of finishers in 2019) was ambitious. Thanks to the commitment of the SwissCityMarathon community from all over the world, this goal was achieved in the end. 372 runners in the 10K, 234 half-marathon and 49 marathon finishers from 26 nations entered their run in the results list. Together they ran 10,725 kilometres. A great achievement, considering that everyone ran at home and had to motivate themselves. By sharing their running pictures on social media, the community was connectet despite the physical distance. "Some runners even run in Lucerne and Horw. For once, however, the cheering spectators along the road and the volunteers who showed them the way were missing. Nevertheless, the feedback and comments show that all participants in the Virtual Challenge completed their run with great satisfaction and anticipation for next year," says Reto Schorno, Managing Director of the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne.

Tadesse Abraham as virtual winner of the half marathon
The Swiss record holder in the marathon distance did not miss the opportunity to add his 30km training run, which he completed with Julien Wanders, Sullivan Brunet and Morgen Le Guen in Geneva with a 3:06 min mileage, to the half-marathon list. Under normal circumstances, a start for Tadesse Abraham in Lucerne would be unrealistic, because in autumn the world's best marathon runners can choose from top-class events in which they can earn a large part of their annual income. Since its first edition in 2007, the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne has therefore refrained from engaging elite sportsmen and women and from suspending prize money. The organisers feel all the more supported and honoured by Tadesse Abraham. "We are delighted to be able to list the best Swiss marathon runner in the results list," adds Reto Schorno.

Eleven real and one virtual event with over 2000 happy finishers
Since the end of August, the organisers of the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne have held eleven real and one virtual event with a total of over 2000 participants. The physically organised small events under the name "YesWeRun" at 10 locations in 6 German-speaking Swiss cantons and the Swiss Trailrun Pilatus met with great enthusiasm among the athletes. The fact that, despite the difficult Corona situation in 2020, it was possible to start with a competitive feeling was greatly appreciated by all participants. The distances were a little shorter for once and everyone started individually, but there were only smiling faces at the finish line.
