Our common goal in autumn - will everything be different this time?

Dear runners
You can believe us that the uncertainty of the feasibility of a running event is a burden. No matter whether it is a large or small event, a cancellation is probably one of the worst scenarios for any organizer.

As with you, the current situation triggers various discussions and emotions. We are always challenged to adapt our plans in the best possible way and to pursue the right strategies. And yet we and all other organizers of events are dependent on the decisions of the authorities and therefore do not know exactly what the next weeks and months will bring.

But to what extent are we worried about the upcoming event? There are several factors: Just as you, as runners, have a training plan and a goal in mind, we plan our event with the aim of offering each and every one of you the greatest possible and an unforgettable experience. Your smiling faces on the course while you are running and the joy at the finish - will we be able to see them? The numerous music formations along the course - will they be allowed to play? The countless spectators in the city - will they be there to give you a good round of applause? Your emotions are the reward for our one year of preparation! But will we experience them? More and more question marks are also being raised with regard to the financing. What about the sponsors - today and in the future? And finally, how will the behaviour of society change? Do you still dare to stand at the starting line at all, or do you dare to stand in a large crowd again and event register for the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne? All these questions keep us busy every day.

During the whole preparation we are accompanied by the memories of the previous years. When the marathon weekend arrives, we can pause for a moment and see all the happy faces, it then feels like Christmas for us.

You can believe us: an event cancellation would be anything but easy for us. But at the end of the day, health is the most important thing we have to take care of. An event of this size requires a long preparation time. The longer the uncertainty lasts, the more difficult it will be for us to take the appropriate measures. We will only run the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne 2020 under safe and responsible conditions. We are currently examining a wide range of scenarios. These are based on assumptions and may change on a daily basis depending on the developement of the pandemic.

However, together we will master this challenging situation, make the best of it and emerge stronger.

Should the scenario occur that we have to cancel our event in 2020, we would be incredibly hurt. But it will not stop us from offering you a unique running festival in Lucerne again in 2021. That's what we're working towards every day - a safe event in 2020 and 2021. We remain positive and hope that you will also stay positiv and keep on running. We will be ready for you when we are allowed to!
