13,000 runners have registered for this year's SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne. This represents a new record number of registrations. "Additional starting slots have been created to meet the high demand," says Managing Director Reto Schorno, "but with 13,000 running enthusiasts at the start, the limit has been reached so that we can guarantee a successful and safe day of running again this year." The route at Bahnhofquai and Schweizerhofquai will also be optimised to provide a little more space for the runners.
Largest half marathon in Switzerland
2,000 runners are registered for the marathon. This makes the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne, together with Geneva and Zurich, one of the three largest city marathons in Switzerland in 2024. With 8,000 registrations, the half marathon is once again sold out and the largest half marathon in Switzerland. In the CityRun 10KM, 3,000 people will start. Due to this record-high number, it is expected that more running enthusiasts will take to the course on Sunday 27 October than ever before and that there will be a new record number of finishers. There are also over 2,500 people on the waiting list who will not be able to start this year.
55 countries at the start
Over 90 per cent of participants come from Switzerland. Runners from all 26 cantons are registered. In addition, over 1,100 international running enthusiasts from 54 different countries will be at the start. Around 550 participants are travelling from Germany, making it the largest group of foreign runners.
