Environmental francs for the "Lucerne-Kriens-Pilatus" forest climate protection project

Last changed on

With the Umweltfranken-Franken, our runners support 100% of the "Lucerne-Kriens-Pilatus" forest climate protection project of the Lucerne Corporation.

The SwissCityMarathon is committed to making the event as environmentally friendly as possible wherever possible. When registering for the SwissCityMarathon - Lucerne, participants can take part in this commitment and voluntarily donate an environmental franc.

This year, 100% of the amount donated will go to the "Lucerne-Kriens-Pilatus" forest climate protection project run by the Lucerne Corporation. Runners decide for themselves how much they want to contribute.

The "Lucerne-Kriens-Pilatus" project of the Lucerne Corporation

The "Lucerne-Kriens-Pilatus" project will run over a period of 30 years. The project is planned for the entire managed forest and obliges the company or the participating forest owners to fully utilise the legal wood utilisation potential and non-forestry potential over the duration of the project. The difference between the possible target supply of wood per hectare and the agreed, higher project supply results in the annual quantity to be commercialised in the form of CO2 certificates.

Most of the project areas are located around the cities of Lucerne and Kriens. They extend from the shores of Lake Lucerne practically to the forest boundary on Mount Pilatus. In addition to heavily travelled forests close to the cities, they also include quiet and remote mountain forests. The forest locations, tree species and structures are diverse. The forests fulfil a wide variety of functions (landscape protection, spring protection, nature conservation, recreation, protection against natural hazards and timber production). The wood utilised is almost exclusively processed in the region or used as energy wood. The natural forest reserves that have already been set aside (around 200 hectares) are not part of this project. The natural forest reserves (approx. 75 ha / total 26,000 tonnes of CO2) run as an independent CO2 project (Lucerne-Pilatus-Bürgenstock natural forest reserves).
